GLIDERS AT WETHERSFIELD
The Air Training Corps owns the largest fleet of gliders in the world. A combination of the winch launched Viking, a high performance glass fibre glider and the self launched Vigilant motor glider.
Cadets in Essex benefit from having their own Gliding School at Wethersfield.

VIKING GLIDER IN FLIGHT
Gliding Induction Course (GIC)
This induction course is divided into three stages:
GIC 1: Age 13.3 This is for three launches or 20 minutes flying time.
GIC 2: Age 14 This is for four launches or 25 minutes flying time.
GIC 3: Age 15 This is for five launches or 30 minutes flying time. At the completion of this stage the student is given an example of a standard stall.
Gliding Scholarships (GS)
Gliding Scholarships, potentially culminating in solo flight, are awarded to cadets who demonstrate aptitude and strong motivation for further training. The course consists of about 40 launches and should be completed in five days or on five successive weekends.
Advanced Gliding Training (AGT)
The aim of the Advanced Gliding Training is to provide opportunities for selected cadets to undertake training in advanced gliding techniques. The courses are aimed at candidates with an ambition to join the RAF or a volunteer gliding school as a staff member.
